2008 WORLD CUP FINAL & THAILAND OPEN

MONDAY 2nd November 2008

Two wonderful events occurred today!!!
I witnessed Warren Potent take on the world's best, and beat them. The Men's 50m Prone event of the World Cup Final being held in Bangkok, started with a number of shooters scoring 100's.

Warren however, was head and shoulders above the rest, and by the 40 shot mark, was showing a "clean set of heels" with 400 posted. One shot in each of the final strings left him with a creditable 598. While others had their opportunities, Matt Eamons was the closest on 596.

The final was spectacular, with shooters extending themselves in a manner that this competition deserves.

The Gold medal was won, and with the medals and crystal presented...... Warren took to the microphone.

He mumbled for just a moment, and then asked his lovely girlfriend Lee to join him at the microphone. Once there, he presented her with a most spectacular bunch of red roses. Lee's delight was most evident.

But Warren had one more ace up his sleeve - he reached into his pocket and produced a diamond ring....and in front all present, asked Lee if she would be his wife. When she had regained her breath...and with a wonderful smile....of course she agreed.

To the applause of a packed finals hall, Warren & Lee were pronounced "engaged"
Every photographer in the range (including yours truly) went for the happy snaps. There is surely photos also on the ISSF TV site to come.

Of course Lee is now more wary of certain Australians, as they were part of the plan to "set her up" as it were. She had no idea of Warren's planned proposal, but was highly pleased with the outcome.

I would not have missed that for the world....by the way....did I mention that I had the camera ready at all times!!!

OTHER THINGS DID HAPPEN TODAY....

Will Godward and Tyren Vitler shot in the Thailand Open Championships, which is running concurrently to the World Cup Final.

Will shot solidly throughout the event to finish 3rd and take the Bronze medal. Tyren had a true struggle through the first 25 shots, yet finished strongly, to come 7th.

Both shooters shot well in the final and retained their places.
